Camera to timeline, no cables: how direct Wi-Fi import works
The fastest way to get action-camera and mirrorless footage into an edit — and why we made import the first thing we built.
01FIELD NOTES / VIDE0productThe slowest part of most edits happens before the editor is even open: cards, readers, folder trees, renaming, proxies. We decided import was the first problem worth solving properly.
What “direct import” means
Connect a supported camera — most action cameras, many mirrorless bodies, or any rig with a Wi-Fi module — and vide0.ai becomes a destination. Stop recording, and the clip is already on its way into your project.
While it lands, three things happen in the background:
- Proxies are generated so the timeline stays responsive on any laptop.
- Transcription runs so the transcript editor is ready by the time you sit down.
- Metadata (camera, lens, frame rate, GPS where available) is indexed so bins organize themselves.
The wireless workflow on set
- Pair the camera once. It’s remembered per project.
- Shoot. Clips appear in the Incoming bin as they finish.
- Mark selects from your phone or laptop while the shoot is still going.
- By wrap, the agent already has enough context to propose a first cut.
For multi-camera shoots, clips from every paired camera are synced by timecode or audio waveform automatically.
Wired, cards and drag-and-drop still work
Not every camera has Wi-Fi, and not every shoot has a network. USB, card readers and plain drag-and-drop go through the same pipeline: proxies, transcription, metadata. The only difference is when it starts.
Supported today
We’re expanding the list every release. If yours isn’t supported yet, mention it in the early-access form — camera requests are one of the main ways we prioritize integrations.
